2024.06.24. The Fair Economy — The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) announced that it has newly appointed lawyer Oh Gyu-seong (46) as a non-standing commissioner, effective the 24th. The appointment follows the expiration of former non-standing commissioner Lee Jeong-hui's term.
Non-standing commissioners are appointed by the president on the recommendation of the FTC chairperson and serve three-year terms.
According to the FTC, the new non-standing commissioner Oh Gyu-seong passed the 42nd bar examination and served as a judge for about 17 years, including as a presiding judge at the Changwon District Court. In particular, from 2020 for about two years, he served as the director general in charge of managing the commission's plenary session deliberations and drafting decisions. He currently works as a lawyer at law firm Good Plan.
Commissioner Oh Gyu-seong contributed to significantly improving the win rate of lawsuits against Fair Trade Commission decisions during his tenure, thereby enhancing the reliability of the commission's law enforcement, and also made efforts to balance the defense rights of respondents with the protection of trade secrets of data submitters through the introduction of the "Korean-style data room", a limited data access system.
The FTC said it expects Commissioner Oh, who has built expertise over a long career as a judge, FTC director general, and lawyer, to contribute significantly to the quasi-judicial body's adjudications.
