2026.10.30. The Fair Economy — The 2026 Suwon Japan Week will open on Nov. 20 and run through Nov. 26. The event brings together a range of Japanese culture under one roof, including an ukiyo-e exhibition, a traditional Japanese magic show, a candy-craft demonstration, and a lecture on Japanese cuisine. For a week, visitors can enjoy a variety of free programs, including exhibitions, performances, lectures and hands-on booths.

The event will be held at various locations in Suwon Special City, including the Suwon Museum Of Art, the Suwon Special City Hall, and the Jeongjo Theme Performance Hall. It is co-hosted by the Embassy of Japan, Seoul, and the Korea-Japan Future Forum, with support from Suwon Special City and Asahikawa.

Japan Week began on the basis of the Japan–South Korea Joint Declaration of 1998, announced at a 1998 Korea-Japan summit, and its accompanying action plan. The Embassy of Japan has introduced Japanese culture in regional Korean cities through exhibitions, performances, lectures and hands-on events. This year, it comes to Suwon to mark 2026-2027 Suwon Bangmun Ui Hae (Visit Suwon Year 2026-2027).

The opening ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 20 at the Pony Chung Hall of the Suwon Museum Of Art. Taiju Fujiyama, who performs a traditional Japanese magic show, will give a congratulatory performance. Fujiyama will take the stage again at 2 p.m. on Nov. 22 at the Jeongjo Theme Performance Hall with a demonstration team from the Suwon Taekwondo Association. An amezaiku candy-craft demonstration will be held by Takahiro Mizuki on Nov. 21-22 at the Pony Chung Hall.

A ukiyo-e exhibition will be held at the Suwon Museum Of Art from Nov. 21 to 26. A lecture by Hirose Aiko, Director of the Publicity and Culture Division of the Japanese Embassy, is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Nov. 24 at High-End Hall in the Continuing Education Center of Kyonggi University. On Nov. 25, a 'Japanese Food Diplomat' will introduce Japanese cuisine at Suwon Science College. Reservations for the magic show and taekwondo performance are open until Nov. 5, while other programs can be enjoyed without separate registration.
