2024.06.24. The Fair Economy — The Ministry of Economy and Finance said on the 24th that it had launched the "Digital Economic Education Platform, Ministry of Economy and Finance. Republic of Korea+" (www.econedu.go.kr), which uses artificial intelligence (AI) and other state-of-the-art technologies to provide a wide range of economic information and content tailored to individual users.
According to the ministry, it has been operating the online economic education website "Ministry of Economy and Finance. Republic of Korea" since 2017. It has now revamped the site into a new platform that brings together content from a range of economic education providers and offers personalized services, in response to a growing number of users amid the expanding need for economic education, as well as to meet user demand for the application of state-of-the-art information technology and more diverse content.
When users select their areas of interest upon signing up, AI technology provides customized content tailored to those interests, recommends content similar to what they have recently studied, and can deliver related content each month via newsletter.
In addition to introducing the latest information technology, the revamp focused on enhancing user convenience and providing substantive content.
First, the platform was designed with an intuitive, simple homepage and main menu so that users can efficiently access the content they need.
The homepage features sections such as "Latest Personalized Content," which recommends content based on users' interests; "Popular Content," showing items with high weekly and monthly view counts; and "Recommended Content," organized by 14 topics and by target audience, such as students, young professionals and military personnel. It also offers related content through a personalized algorithm, giving users more options.
The main menu was reorganized into "Play With Economics," "Find Economics," "Learn Economics," "Economic Education Channel" and "Regional Economic Education Center" so that users can easily grasp the content at a glance.
In addition, the new platform reorganized its content classification system into 14 major categories and more than 80 subcategories.
It offers a related-term search function through a state-of-the-art search engine, allowing users to conveniently find content.
Along with the launch, the platform is offering micro-learning video content aimed at teenagers, who are seen as most in need of economic education. In the second half of the year, it plans to regularly release about 30 videos, including collaborations with influencers, variety-show-style series and retro stories about the economy.
In addition to monthly reading materials such as "Reading the World Through Economics" and "How About This Lesson?," the platform will provide a new weekly offering, "Weekly Ministry of Economy and Finance. Republic of Korea."
Content from various economic education providers, including the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency and About KDIC, will be linked to the platform and offered on an ongoing basis. Channels will also be created so that each institution can build its own dedicated page reflecting its characteristics.
Following the launch of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Republic of Korea+ website, a congratulatory-comment and mission-completion event will be held in early July, and an economic education content contest is also planned for later.
