2024.06.28. The Fair Economy — The 'Open Cloud Platform (K-PaaS) Summit 2024,' hosted by the Open Cloud Platform Alliance (OPA) and Soongsil University's Spartan SW Education Center, will be held on July 3 at the Han Kyung-jik Memorial Hall at Soongsil University.
OPA is a consortium formed to build an interoperable cloud platform ecosystem. It currently has 96 member companies active in five subcommittees.
According to OPA, the event will share the latest technology trends and use cases in response to the growing need to revitalize the private ecosystem of cloud platforms. It will also announce the achievements of K-PaaS and its expansion prospects.
Kim Hong-jin, chairman of OPA, will deliver the opening address, while Shin Yong-tae, director of Soongsil University's Spartan SW Education Center, and Lee Ju-wan, CEO of MegazoneCloud, will give welcome speeches. Lee Jun-seok, a lawmaker of the Reform Party, Song Gwang-heon, chairman of the Korea Commercial Software Association, and the AI-based Policy Officer at the Ministry of Science and ICT will deliver congratulatory remarks.
In the second part, a total of four sessions will be held: 'Innovating Next-Generation Cloud Services with AI-PaaS,' 'The Present and Future of Cloud Native,' 'Expansion and Leaps in Cloud Native,' and 'K-PaaS Success Stories and Development Strategies.' Fifteen companies and organizations, including MegazoneCloud, Innogrid, Namu Tech, and Red Hat Korea, will present.
At the event, OPA will hold a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 'K-PaaS University Open Lab,' which trains domestic open cloud platform developers.
The K-PaaS University Open Lab is promoting K-PaaS utilization as part of regular coursework for undergraduate and graduate students. As of 2023, it has been operating as a regular course at nine universities, including Korea University, Soongsil University, Ewha Womans University, Sangmyung University, Gwangju University, National Defense University, Tech University of Korea, Korea Polytechnic University, and the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. A total of 1,652 students have taken the course so far.
On July 3, MOUs will be signed with five additional institutions—Hanyang University, Ajou University, Chungnam National University, Kangwon National University, and Yeungnam University College—bringing the total number of schools offering K-PaaS classes to 14.
As a model for cultivating talent tailored to industry needs, the K-PaaS University Open Lab plans to expand from the metropolitan area to the Gangwon, Chungnam, and Yeongnam regions. This expansion aims to address educational disparities between regions and contribute to supplying cloud professionals.
K-PaaS, the open cloud platform that OPA aims for, collectively refers to the 'K-PaaS Standard Model,' developed and distributed in open-source form, and 14 types of 'commercial PaaS and platform software' that have received K-PaaS compatibility certification.
To revitalize the cloud ecosystem, K-PaaS has established three types of certification systems. These include 'suitability certification,' which verifies whether platforms support key common functions between the K-PaaS Standard Model and commercial PaaS; 'compatibility certification,' which checks operability between software as a service (SaaS) and K-PaaS; and 'specialized enterprise certification,' for companies that have secured K-PaaS expertise and track records. These systems are unifying the domestic cloud ecosystem.
Currently, 15 types of K-PaaS have received suitability certification. 142 SaaS products have obtained compatibility certification, and 46 enterprises have earned specialized enterprise certification.
An open platform reference model has also been developed so that consumers can see at a glance the list of services and solutions offered in the domestic cloud platform market. Customized K-PaaS training is also being provided for the public sector.
