2024.07.04. The Fair Economy — JIRANDATA (CEO Yoo Byeong-wan), a data protection specialist, announced on the 4th that it has been selected as an advanced technology company by the Ministry of Science and ICT and INNOPOLIS.

According to JIRANDATA, the company was selected as an advanced technology company for its artificial intelligence (AI)-based data protection technology, which includes its next-generation personal information protection technology, "synthetic data generation technology." JIRANDATA has developed AI-based data protection technologies such as OCR, NER, de-identification of personal information in unstructured data, and synthetic data generation, and has applied them to its "FILTER" series of data and personal information protection solutions.

The synthetic data generation technology that JIRANDATA is researching and developing creates "synthetic data" — virtual data that retains the statistical characteristics of real data — and uses it for machine learning training. Because the data is virtual, it is regarded as a next-generation personal information protection technology that can improve the quality and quantity of training data without infringing on privacy.

JIRANDATA also holds a patent related to the synthetic data generation technology (Patent No. 10-2428748, "Method and Operating System for Generating Reproduction Data Using Virtual Characters for Personal Information Protection"). The patented technology involves analyzing original data to derive target statistics, then selecting a virtual character from among pre-registered virtual characters that corresponds to the original data and target statistics in order to generate synthetic data. If an additional virtual character is needed, a new one can be created and registered to generate synthetic data.

Advanced technology companies are designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT under the Special Act on the Promotion of Research and Development Special Zones. Eligible companies are those based in a research and development special zone that produce and sell products in technology-intensive fields with fast-moving innovation, such as information and communication technology, biotechnology, and nanotechnology. To qualify, a company must hold a patent on the advanced technology and derive at least 20% of its revenue from producing and selling products based on it, among other criteria. Companies designated as advanced technology companies receive benefits such as ▲bonus points when participating in special-zone development projects and ▲tax incentives.

"We are very pleased that JIRANDATA's technological capabilities have been recognized through this designation as an advanced technology company," said Yoo Byeong-wan, CEO of JIRANDATA. "JIRANDATA plans to continue researching and developing AI technologies for data protection, including OCR, NER, and de-identification of personal information in unstructured data. Building on our next-generation data protection technology — synthetic data generation — we aim to establish ourselves as the 'first-choice company for data protection,' supporting the safe use of data as well."
