2024.07.05. The Fair Economy — The Korea Professional Engineers Association (Chairman Jang Deok-bae) said it held the 18th National Professional Engineers Conference on the 5th at the Gwanggaeto Hall of SEJONG UNIVERSITY in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.

According to the association, the event was a success, with about 1,300 people in attendance, including guests and professional engineers from 84 fields.

The event, sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, included morning ceremonies with the opening address, congratulatory speeches, and awards such as the Ministry of Science and ICT Award, the Ministry of Employment and Labor Award, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award, the Deokwon Technology Award, the Engineer of the Year Award, and the Multichild Award (for engineers with three or more children), following the 2023 edition.

The National Professional Engineers Convention has been held annually since 2007, with the aim of promoting the development of industrial technology and enhancing the capabilities of professional engineers, the nation's top engineers.

This year's convention featured a morning keynote session under the theme 'Digital Transformation (DX) Era: Strengthening Professional Technical Capabilities with AI.'

The afternoon session featured presentations on outstanding technology cases, including the latest technologies and safety assurance and application examples, selected through a video content contest aimed at improving professional engineers' capabilities.

In particular, for the second year in a row, the conference presented the Multi-Child Award to 10 professional engineers with three or more children, aiming to help address the low birth rate — a major social issue — and to encourage childbirth and foster a family-friendly social atmosphere.

Through this, the association, as an organization affiliated with the Ministry of Science and ICT, sought to actively participate in national policies and take interest in and address social issues.

In his convention address, Chairman Jang Deok-bae said that amid the frequent safety accidents that have recently claimed the lives and property of the people, professional engineers, as the top experts in science and technology, are striving under the slogan, 'Professional engineers will protect the safety and lives of the people.'

He went on to say, "Amid the trend of digital innovation, we must continue to explore and pioneer new possibilities and roles for professional technology. I hope the 18th National Professional Engineers Conference will serve as a venue where everyone can share knowledge, identify new trends, and promote mutual cooperation and exchange."

Following the ceremony, Choi Jae-bung, Vice President of Sungkyunkwan University, gave a keynote lecture on 'Survival Strategies in the Age of AI Sapiens,' and in the afternoon, a special lecture by Kang Gyeong-in, Director of the Smart Construction Safety Technology Center at Dankook University (Satec), along with excellent case presentations and 12 branch sessions, were held.

Meanwhile, professional engineers — holders of the nation's top technical qualification, requiring advanced expertise and application skills — currently number about 60,000 across 84 fields and are active in various sectors.
