2024.07.10. The Fair Economy — The Korea Information Technology Research Institute (KITRI) received the Prime Minister's Commendation (for organizations) on the 10th at the commemorative ceremony for 'Je13hoe Jeongbo Boho Ui Nal (The 13th Information Security Day),' in recognition of its contributions to the development of information security in the digital government sector.

KITRI, as an institution that trains white hat hackers and other information security professionals, has been successfully running the Best of the Best, BoB program, which began in 2012 and this year marks its 13th cohort. It is well known for operating systematic information security education courses, including "Cyber Guardians", a program that cultivates youth information security talent; "Whitehat School", which provides entry-level information security training for those under 24 years old to develop intermediate white hat hackers; and BoB, which trains elite white hat hackers through track-specific mentoring and team projects.

In particular, BoB graduates have won DEFCON CTF — often called the 'hacking Olympics,' where security experts and hackers from around the world gather to compete — four times, starting with the first Asian victory in 2015, followed by wins in 2018 and two consecutive years in 2022-2023.

Yoo Jun-sang, president of KITRI, said in his acceptance remarks, "I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who has worked alongside me, including KITRI's executives and staff, program graduates and mentors. As an institution playing a key role in training 100,000 cybersecurity professionals, KITRI will continue to contribute to nurturing information security talent and developing the related industry."
