2024.07.15. The Fair Economy — The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 15th that it will certify four facilities — Shinsegae Food's Pyeongtaek HUB Center, Han Express's Fulfillment Center 1, Ottogi Logistics Service's Baekam Safety Logistics Center, and Dawon Logitech's Pocheon Logistics Center — as the second batch of smart logistics centers of 2024 on the 16th.

The smart logistics center certification system is a government program that certifies logistics centers equipped with cutting-edge, automated facilities, equipment, and systems that achieve efficiency, safety, and eco-friendliness. Since its introduction in July 2021, a total of 49 centers have been certified, including this latest batch.

Centers certified as smart logistics centers can receive support for part of the loan interest (0.5 to 2 percentage points) on costs needed for construction or the purchase of cutting-edge, automated equipment.

Shinsegae Food's Pyeongtaek HUB Center, the only facility to receive the top grade in the main certification, is a state-of-the-art automated fulfillment logistics center that has introduced automated facilities and a real-time integrated operating system. Fulfillment is a method in which a specialized logistics company handles the entire process, including receiving, storage, packaging, delivery, and inventory management. The center is composed of three temperature zones (ambient, refrigerated, and frozen) and handles everything from receiving to shipping for various client companies. It also recommends the optimal packaging box automatically for e-commerce orders, and has introduced equipment specialized for multi-item packaging to maximize work efficiency.

Han Express's Fulfillment Center 1, Ottogi Logistics Service's Baekam Safety Logistics Center, and Dawon Logitech's Pocheon Logistics Center were granted preliminary certification, recognized as logistics centers with excellent efficiency and safety through the introduction of automated facilities and systems tailored to their respective characteristics.

Han Express's Fulfillment Center 1 maximizes work accuracy and efficiency by using GTP-type automated facilities, and in particular, minimizes the input of operating personnel by improving the efficiency of repetitive tasks through the introduction of automated packaging equipment. GTP (Goods To Person) is an automated system in which products are moved to a work position without the worker having to go and fetch the products to be shipped.

Ottogi Logistics Service's Baekam Safety Logistics Center was planned as an integrated distribution center for the Seoul metropolitan area. It has introduced smart automated facilities to improve picking efficiency and secure excellent inbound and outbound processing capabilities, and has built an environment that enables efficient operations by predicting client demand through big data-based analysis and management.

Dawon Logitech's Pocheon Logistics Center is a logistics center specializing in bottled water transport. Given the nature of the handled goods, it has differentiated competitiveness from other logistics companies in handling heavy, high-consumption items, and has streamlined logistics processing and reduced the risk of safety accidents by operating an unmanned logistics center using automated inbound, outbound, and inventory management.

Kim Geun-o, the ministry's logistics policy officer, said, "The smart logistics center certification system is a key project to support private logistics companies. We plan to further expand certification benefits so that logistics companies can actively invest in logistics smartization. We will continue to support the spread of smart logistics centers in various ways so that the logistics industry can grow as a future new growth engine."
