2024.07.15. The Fair Economy — The National Assembly Research Service (NARS) announced on the 15th that it will co-host the 'Seminar on Legislative and Policy Tasks for Strengthening the Competitiveness of the Domestic Digital Industry' with the Korean Association for Policy Studies and the Korea Internet Corporations Association at 10 a.m. on the 16th in the NARS conference room.

According to NARS, the digital industry not only provides new services and experiences but also serves as the foundation for economic activities of small and medium-sized enterprises and startups, playing an important role in the national economy.

However, in the domestic digital industry, the share and influence of foreign companies are high, while the competitiveness of domestic companies is weak and it is difficult for them to enter the global market. Considering the importance and future scalability of the digital industry, seeking ways to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic companies is important and urgent.

That said, it is also difficult to grant unlimited autonomy to the digital industry. This is because new phenomena that have not been experienced before and for which no response systems have been established may arise, potentially causing social and economic problems.

Therefore, through this seminar, we aim to examine the on-site situation surrounding the domestic digital industry ecosystem, seek legislative and policy tasks necessary to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic companies, and use them for the legislative and legislative support activities of the 22nd National Assembly.

At the opening ceremony, opening remarks will be given by Park Sang-cheol, head of NARS, followed by welcoming speeches by Park Seong-ho, chairman of the Korea Internet Corporations Association, and Yoon Ji-woong, president of the Korean Association for Policy Studies, and congratulatory remarks by lawmakers Hwang Jung-ah, Choi Hyeong-du, Lee Seong-gwon, and Kim Jong-min.

The seminar will proceed with presentations and a roundtable discussion.

Kim Min-ho, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University School of Law, who will give the presentation, will present the right direction for regulation policy and legislation to strengthen the competitiveness of the digital industry under the theme 'The Right Direction of Regulatory Policy and Legislation for Strengthening Digital Industry Competitiveness'.

The roundtable will bring together researchers and experts from various fields of the domestic digital industry, policy scholars, consumer groups, and government and National Assembly officials to present diverse opinions and broaden mutual understanding. Chaired by Professor Kim Min-ho, who gave the presentation, the panel will include Hong Dae-sik, director of the Sogang University ICT Law and Economy Research Institute; Lee Sang-yong, professor at Konkuk University School of Law; Choi Kyu-wan, professor of Hotel Management at Kyung Hee University; Kang Il, attorney at law firm Bae, Kim & Lee; Lee Won-seok, attorney at law firm Shin & Kim; Sung Wook-jun, professor at the IT Policy Graduate School of Seoul National University of Science and Technology; Jeong Ji-yeon, secretary general of the Korea Consumer Federation; Kim Nam-cheol, head of the Information and Communication Policy Division at the Ministry of Science and ICT; Kwon Young-jae, deputy director of the Digital Economy Policy Division at the Fair Trade Commission; and Jeong Jun-hwa, legislative researcher at NARS.
