2024.07.17. The Fair Economy — Gyeonggi Global announced on the 17th that it has selected 76 small and medium-sized enterprises as targets for its 'Gyeonggi Global-type smart factory construction and consulting support project' to strengthen manufacturing competitiveness, and will provide support for factory construction starting in the second half of the year.

According to the province, the Gyeonggi Global-type smart factory construction project is a pledge initiative of the eighth term of the local government aimed at strengthening the manufacturing competitiveness of SMEs, with a self-contribution rate reduced from 50% to 30% compared to government projects, and high satisfaction among beneficiary companies due to support tailored to the company's on-site needs through consulting.

A total of 343 companies applied for the project, recording a high competition rate of 4.9 to 1. Noting the high demand from small and micro enterprises that have been left out of smart factory support, the province expanded the number of beneficiaries from the initially planned 70 to 76.

The selected SMEs, chosen through company presentations and expert evaluations, will build their smart factories in the second half of this year. Gyeonggi Techno Park will provide customized support, including coordinating opinions with companies, resolving on-site difficulties, managing schedules and processes, and analyzing and reviewing performance, through specialized consulting using a pool of experts.

"We operate an Internet of Things (IoT)-based manufacturing execution system (MES), so we urgently needed systematic management and utilization of manufacturing data but were struggling due to budget constraints. With support from this Gyeonggi Global project, we can strengthen our manufacturing competitiveness through real-time decision-making and improved production process efficiency, allowing us to take the next step forward," said a representative of one of the selected SMEs.

Kim Tae-geun, Section Chief of Digital Innovation at the province, said, "Through the Gyeonggi Global-type smart factory construction support project, small and medium-sized enterprises have seen increased sales and employment. We will review the effects of this year's support project and strengthen the initiative in 2025 to help improve productivity and create safer workplaces."
