2024.07.17. The Fair Economy — KT (CEO Kim Yeong-seop) announced on the 17th that it will introduce 'combo internet' technology, which enables 10-gigabit internet services using existing infrastructure, into its network. The technology is based on an international standard from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Previously, providing 10-gigabit internet services required installing additional equipment to convert and integrate optical signals. With Combo Internet technology, KT can offer 10-gigabit internet by attaching a Combo Internet module to existing infrastructure.
KT will prioritize applying the Combo Internet technology to buildings where installing 10-gigabit internet is difficult, based on customer needs. Additionally, it integrates multiple service lines into a single device to improve efficiency and reduce power consumption.
KT expects the Combo Internet technology to be useful for meeting the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) solutions that manage all devices in a home, as well as for expanding video-based AI services that require high transmission capacity. The company also plans to develop customized services that analyze customers' internet usage patterns and automatically adjust speed and bandwidth to optimal levels, thereby enhancing customer value.
Kwon Hye-jin, managing director and head of KT's Network Strategy Division, said, "KT is committed to continuous customer-centric technological innovation to provide a better internet experience. As an AICT company, we will continue to innovate the infrastructure that underpins the growing demand for AI services and strengthen our leadership as the No. 1 technology provider in ultra-high-speed internet."
