2024.07.18. The Fair Economy — Ktc. (KTC) announced on the 18th that it has become the first domestic organization to obtain the "designated testing laboratory (CARAT)" qualification in the display sector from TUV SUD, Germany's leading testing and certification agency.
According to KTC, the newly accredited fields are seven display test areas: ▲photobiological safety ▲laser light source safety ▲bluelight ▲flicker, pass/fail judgment and recording (Flicker, PstLM·SVM) ▲Eyesafe 2.0 ▲Flicker Percent (FP) ▲Flicker Index (FI).
PstLM·SVM are methods for evaluating flicker, the phenomenon in which lighting flickers subtly due to changes in current or voltage.
FP is a unit that quantifies flicker, and FI indicates the degree to which brightness exceeds the average within one cycle of brightness change.
Last July, KTC discussed ways to strengthen cooperation with TUV SUD Korea with representatives from both organizations in attendance. Early this year, it selected displays, one of the domestic demand and export items, as a field for strengthened business cooperation and continued working-level meetings.
As a result, after an evaluation of KTC's testing and certification service capabilities, including its expert personnel and equipment, it became the first in Korea to earn TUV SUD's designated laboratory status in the display field.
With this, KTC can now jointly provide display performance certification services with TUV SUD, a global certification body, which is expected to increase the convenience of obtaining overseas certifications for domestic display companies and enhance their global competitiveness through objective quality management.
Founded in 1856, TUV SUD is Germany's leading testing and certification body, providing testing, inspection, certification, and evaluation services in various countries. The CARAT program operated by TUV SUD is an international standard certification system that ensures the safety and reliability of products in various industrial fields, including displays and electrical and electronic products, through rigorous testing and certification procedures.
KTC has already been recognized as a CARAT designated laboratory by TUV SUD in the fields of electrical and electronic, electromagnetic compatibility, electric motors, and information security, and has been providing testing and certification services. With this expansion of accredited fields, it can now also cover displays.
Looking ahead, Ktc. plans to continue expanding its testing and certification services across all industrial sectors beyond displays through close cooperation with TUV SUD Korea.
Ahn Seong-il, president of KTC, said, "Through this expansion of TUV SUD designated laboratories, we have provided opportunities for domestic display companies to enter overseas markets more actively. We will continue to provide reliable testing and certification services to customers through the continuous establishment of testing and certification infrastructure and research and development."
