2024.08.08. The Fair Economy — The National Intelligence Service held a plaque unveiling ceremony on the 6th, presided over by Third Deputy Director Yoon O-jun, to rename the "National Cyber Security Cooperation Center" in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, to "Pangyo Campus," and announced the background to the name change and future plans.
Attending the event were Shin Yong-seok, Cybersecurity Secretary at the presidential office; Cho Won-hui, Commander of the Cyber Operations Command; Lee Gyeong-min, Head of the Security Division at the Defense Counterintelligence Command; Lee Dong-jeong, Head of the National Cyber Crisis Management Center; Hwang Su-hun, Director of the National Security Research Institute; Lee Sang-jung, President of Kisa; Kim Cheol-ung, President of the Financial Security Institute; Cho Yeong-cheol, President of the Information Security Industry Association; Lee Gi-ju, President of the Korea CISO Association; Cho Jun-hui, President of the Korea Software Industry Association; Kim Sang-bae, President of the Korea Cyber Security Association; and Ha Jae-cheol, President of the Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology.
Previously, the NIS opened the 'National Cyber Security Cooperation Center' in Pangyo, an IT hub, in November 2022, to share cyber threat information and technology among the public, private, and military sectors and to respond swiftly and efficiently at the national level in case of incidents.
Regarding the reason for renaming it to 'Pangyo Campus', the NIS explained that it aims to further expand existing public-private cooperation in a free environment like a campus, actively support education and training to cultivate cyber talent, and promote the growth of information security companies, thereby getting closer to the public and businesses.
It also said the change would resolve the confusion caused by the similarity between the name of the "National Cyber Security Cooperation Center" and its parent organization, the "National Cyber Security Center."
Currently, about 60 people from 15 national and public institutions and 9 information security companies are stationed full-time at "Pangyo Campus," with 12 additional institutions and companies participating on a non-resident basis.
The NIS plans to launch 'Cyber Partners', a nationwide cyber security alliance, in September, and will further strengthen communication with relevant industry in the process of establishing national cyber security policies, including network segmentation and supply chain security.
Third Deputy Director Yoon O-jun said, "'Pangyo Campus' is a space shared with the public," adding, "We will do our best to make it leap forward as a core hub for national cyber cooperation, covering communication, education and training, and win-win growth with businesses."
