2024.08.10. The Fair Economy — Tilon, a company specializing in cloud virtualization and metaverse offices, announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province titled 'MOU for the Establishment of a Net-Zero Internet Data Center (Net-Zero IDC) to Realize 2035 Carbon Neutrality Through an Energy Transition,' at a signing ceremony held at the Jeju provincial government building on the 9th.

Net-zero refers to a state in which the emission and absorption of greenhouse gases that cause changes to the Earth's climate are in balance.

According to Tilon, the agreement plays a key role in a public-private cooperation project being pursued to achieve Jeju Province's 2035 carbon neutrality goal. Through this MOU, Tilon plans to accelerate data center construction and digital innovation projects with Jeju Province to realize carbon neutrality.

The main contents of the agreement include: ▲ implementing a data carbon-neutrality model through the construction of a 40MW-class Net-Zero IDC; ▲ building the nation's first 'Tourism RE100 IDC' complex capable of 'planning, design, production, storage, and service' of digital content; ▲ cooperating on content production and experience center construction using XR stages and 3D metaverse technology; ▲ contributing to job creation, including hiring local talent, through the construction of IDC and related digital industries; ▲ cooperating on digital innovation and the implementation of a Jeju-style green hydrogen economic model; and ▲ cooperating on fostering convergence industries linked to Jeju's environment, history, and tourism sectors.

Choi Baek-jun, CEO of Tilon, explained the importance and role of Net-Zero IDCs during a presentation titled "Realizing the 2035 Carbon Neutrality Vision and Activating the Digital Industry," which was held midway through the signing ceremony.

Tilon plans to build a Net-Zero IDC by utilizing Jeju Province's abundant renewable energy, serving as a stable destination for renewable energy consumption in the process.

The company also emphasized the importance of data centers as core infrastructure for digital transformation, including artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and cloud computing, stating that this will contribute to revitalizing Jeju's digital industry ecosystem.

In addition, Tilon plans to create content production infrastructure using XR stages and 3D metaverse technology to cultivate various industries integrated with Jeju's environment, history, and tourism sectors.

Tilon expects the agreement to bring benefits such as creating local jobs, activating upstream and downstream related industries, and expanding the potential for attracting IT companies to the Jeju region.
