2024.08.13. The Fair Economy — CUBRID (CEO Jung Byeong-ju), a domestic database management system (DBMS) company, announced on the 13th that its relational DBMS product CUBRID had the highest share among domestic DBMS products adopted in the public sector as of last year, citing the '2024 Public Sector Information Resource Status Statistics Report' released by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) provide annual statistics on public sector information resources based on enterprise architecture (EA) to fulfill the public's right to know about the status of public sector information resources and to support the formulation of government-wide informatization policies and decision-making.

According to this year's report, the total number of software programs operated in the public sector in 2023 was 236,867. By type, the breakdown is as follows: ▲operating systems 51,569 ▲information security 48,781 ▲WEB/WAS 29,176 ▲DBMS 21,369.

Among these, the top five DBMS suppliers were Oracle Corporation (63.52%), Microsoft (16.03%), CUBRID (9.13%), TmaxData (8.23%) and MariaDB (3.09%), in that order.

CUBRID's market share grew gradually from 7.80% in 2021 and 8.27% in 2022 to 9.13% in 2023, ranking first among domestic DBMS products. According to the software localization status survey statistics, the foreign share of DBMS is 80.01%, indicating a deepening dependence on foreign software. The area with the highest foreign share is operating systems (98.22%), followed by backup (74.36%) and WEB/WAS (66.17%).

Jung Byeong-ju, CEO of CUBRID, said, "Due to the nature of DBMS products, rapid market changes are difficult, but the situation is gradually improving compared to the past when the share of domestic suppliers was less than 10%. In particular, coupled with the recent demand for cloud transition in the public sector, demand for open-source or domestic DBMS products continues to increase, so we expect that there is ample room for future market improvement. We plan to focus on increasing the user base to accelerate product innovation and strengthening close customer support to enhance our competitive edge."
