2024.06.17. The Fair Economy — The government has decided to allow citizens to use 11 public services, including passport renewal applications, Book-Ieum service, and lost-and-found reporting, through private apps starting from the 17th. Previously, these services were only available on public websites or apps.

In connection with this, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held the '2024 Digital Service Opening Launch Ceremony' at Gimpo International Airport on the 17th, with Ko Jin, chairperson of the Digital Platform Government Committee; Lee Sang-min, minister of the interior and safety; the agencies responsible for the services; and participating companies in attendance. The ministry ran a demonstration event announcing the launch of the services along with an experience booth for the public.

The Digital Platform Government Committee and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety selected services with high public usage and strong private-sector demand as last year's service-opening projects, and held joint consultations with the agencies in charge of each service, private companies, and the National Information Society Agency (NIA)'s Digital Service Opening Support Center.

For the 11 services being opened this time, private companies add creativity and innovation to create new convergence services that enhance public convenience.

KB Kookmin Bank will pre-verify photo information, the most common reason passport applications are rejected, to lower rejection rates, and will give users easy-to-understand updates on their application status. It will also link family customer information so users can register and use their children's Chaekieum (Book-Link) library cards.

Naver will link its certificate-based offline identity verification service, Access Pass, to provide the Chaekieum library service safely and conveniently.

S Woori Bank will provide customized military service, including applications for military fitness examinations and mobilization training notices for reservists, through its digital wallet service, Wonder Wallet, in collaboration with the Military Manpower Administration. It will also offer a convenient lost property reporting service.

Wello, together with the Digital Platform Government Committee, provides customized guidance on national and local government policies for young people through its youth policy platform project, and also offers a service for reporting student loan debtors.

Kakao Mobility, in connection with the electric vehicle charging service provided in the Kakao T and Kakao Navi apps, offers a map-based function for reporting charging station inconveniences.

Shinhan Bank provides reservations for the Korea Forest Service's Forest e-Lang and the National Institute of Ecology through its SOL Bank app, while Shinhan Card offers convenient lost-and-found reporting and inquiry services through its SOL Pay app.

Kakao Pay will link customer information through the Kakao Pay app so users can register for, withdraw from, or modify the Do Not Call telemarketing opt-out list with a single click.

Ko Jin, chairperson of the Digital Platform Government Committee, said, "This launch of digital services is a key achievement of the Digital Platform Government initiative, created by combining private- and public-sector services to generate new value." He added, "The committee will continue working with each ministry to help create new converged public-private services."

Lee Sang-min, minister of the interior and safety, said, "As we enter the second year of opening digital services, we aim to significantly increase the number of services opened to the private sector. Because the public will be able to use a variety of public services through the private apps they already use regularly, they will come to feel how the Digital Platform Government is changing everyday life." He added, "We will carry out this year's newly opened services thoroughly, so that new value can be created together with the private sector."
