2024.07.09. The Fair Economy — A bill requiring building designers and construction supervisors to receive cooperation from ICT engineers during the design and supervision of ICT facilities has been submitted to the National Assembly.
Rep. Kim Jeong-ho, a member of the National Assembly's Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee, recently proposed the partial amendment to the Construction Act as the lead sponsor.
Under the current Construction Law, when designers and construction supervisors carry out design and construction supervision for site safety, the structural safety of buildings, and the installation of building facilities, they are required to receive cooperation from relevant professional engineers under related laws, such as those who have registered a professional engineering office or registered as a construction engineering business operator.
However, as ICT infrastructure becomes more advanced and the importance of designing and supervising ICT facilities grows, there are calls to designate ICT engineers as relevant professional engineers, making it mandatory for building designers and construction supervisors to receive cooperation from ICT engineers in the design and supervision of ICT facilities such as high-speed information and communication facilities and intelligent home network facilities.
Rep. Kim Jeong-ho explained that the purpose of the amendment is to designate information and communications engineers as relevant professional engineers, allowing designers and construction supervisors to receive cooperation from information and communications engineers with specialized technical expertise during the design and construction supervision process, thereby improving the safety and quality of the design and construction of increasingly advanced and specialized information and communications facilities.
