2024.07.26. The Fair Economy — LGU+ (CEO Hwang Hyeon-sik) announced on the 26th that it will carry out a social contribution project to help resolve the after-school care gap by distributing home CCTV to households with elementary school students in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province.

The project is part of the "2024 Social and Environmental Problem-Solving Support Project" organized by the Gyeonggi Social Economy Institute, and is being carried out through cooperation between LGU+ and the educational community cooperative Woorinuri Social Cooperative. As the number of dual-income households rises, more elementary school children are experiencing a "care gap" after school, creating a need for active countermeasures.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Education in March last year, the number of children on waiting lists for elementary after-school care in Gyeonggi Province stood at 6,914, accounting for 45% of all waitlisted children nationwide. Namyangju, home to the Dasan new town, has been working to actively address demand for care, including launching the country's first municipal elementary care center, "Namyangju Sangsang Nuriteo," but an additional cooperative care system linked with the local community is still needed.

To address this, LGU+ is using artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) technology to provide emotional stability and encourage self-directed learning for elementary school children from dual-income households who are waiting to be placed in care centers, working to close the "care blind spot." The company will first provide AI-equipped home CCTVs to 50 households in Namyangju, while the educational community cooperative Woorinuri Social Cooperative will develop village-centered field education content and arrange care teachers. The care service is also expected to boost the local economy by providing jobs to local residents who had left the workforce.

LGU+ and the educational community Urinuri Social Cooperative plan to expand humanities and arts content in the future to develop the project into a community-linked care business.

Lee Geon-yeong, managing director in charge of LGU+'s smart home business, said, "As the birth rate falls and children become more precious, there is a growing call for not just parents but all members of society to take part in raising children. LGU+ will also offer specialized products and services that only a telecom company can provide, to help many children grow up safely."
