2024.06.04. The Fair Economy — Wkit (CEO Park Yun-ha) recently announced that it has built its intelligent wildfire smoke detection solution "FIREWATCHER" in the Gyeongsangnam-do Province's "Wildfire Prevention ICT Platform Construction Project".
According to Wkit, on the 28th of last month, the company successfully conducted a demonstration test at Namsan in Chahwang-myeon, Sancheong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province, generating artificial smoke to detect wildfire smoke. FIREWATCHER, which is linked to cameras and monitors video in real time, detected the smoke and sent alerts to provincial and county wildfire officials, who took swift initial action through the solution.
For this project, Wkit used 188 wildfire surveillance cameras installed across Gyeongsangnam-do to train the system on the flame and smoke patterns detected during wildfires. Its object identification and recognition functions distinguish smoke from clouds, fog, water vapor and mist as well as from streetlights, reflected light and car headlights, minimizing false detections — a feature that drew praise from Gyeongsangnam-do officials.
Meanwhile, Wkit has built FIREWATCHER not only in South Gyeongsang Province but also in Daegu, Gangwon Province, Uljin County in North Gyeongsang, and Gokseong County in South Jeolla, among other local governments and the Korea Forest Service, gaining recognition for its technological prowess and reliability.
A Wkit official said, "Through 24-hour monitoring using the intelligent wildfire detection solution, we can not only increase work efficiency but also achieve the effect of reducing enormous recovery costs through early response."
