2024.06.13. The Fair Economy — Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) and Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) announced on the 13th that they had signed a memorandum of understanding to standardize airport data and make it easier for the private sector to use that data.
This is the first time the two corporations have signed an MOU to boost airport data services. By improving the quality of airport data, the two sides aim to build a mutual cooperation framework that opens up more convenient airport data to the public, promotes data-driven administration, and delivers high-quality airport services.
The two corporations are working to improve the difficulty in implementing app and web services at the national airport level caused by inconsistent terminology currently provided to the private sector, such as flight information, parking information, and airport codes. They will also standardize the terminology of newly opened public data services to enhance private sector access to and utilization of data.
They also plan to identify and open up new airport data through on-site interviews with private companies, and to pursue data-driven innovation in airport services, actively supporting private-sector startups and boosting the data economy.
Park Jae-hui, head of KAC's Strategic Planning Division, said, "We will eliminate data silos between the two corporations and provide user-centered digital platform data services, helping improve public satisfaction with airport services."
Kim Beom-ho, head of IIAC's Management Division, said, "We expect this agreement to improve the openness and usability of public data at both corporations." He added, "We will continue to support the public in conveniently accessing high-quality, reliable airport data."
