2024.07.04. The Fair Economy — The Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA) announced that it held the enrollment ceremony for the fourth cohort of its "Security Academy" on the 3rd at Amoris Yeoksam in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, together with the Ministry of Science and ICT.
According to KISIA, the Security Academy is part of the current government's key initiative to 'train 100,000 cybersecurity experts.' It is a company-led training program in which companies participate in the entire process—from selecting talent, providing education, to linking with employment—to nurture young cybersecurity professionals who can immediately enter the information security industry.
KISIA's Korea Information Security Education Institute said it selected trainees for the fourth cohort of the Security Academy through a second-half recruitment process, following the third cohort's completion ceremony on the 19th of last month. AhnLab and Sk Shieldus are taking part in the fourth cohort's corporate track, while 50 leading information security companies are participating in the job-specific track as a consortium. Starting with this opening ceremony, the fourth cohort's trainees will begin six months of training at KISIA's Korea Information Security Education Institute from the 4th, aiming to become practical, hands-on professionals.
The event, which began with congratulations on the start of the 4th cohort, included an oath ceremony to foster ethical awareness among cybersecurity trainees and an orientation for the curriculum. In the afternoon, Yoon Du-sik, CEO of eRoun & company Co., Ltd., and Lee Jong-ho, a world-renowned white-hat hacker and leader at Toss, gave lectures on the latest cases of security threats. The lectures also offered practical and useful advice, including the importance of generative AI security, a recent hot topic, and career direction. In addition, graduates of the 1st and 2nd cohorts of the Security Academy attended and shared their employment success stories, boosting the morale of junior trainees.
"Given that they were selected through fierce competition among capable applicants, it seems this fourth cohort has a stronger will than ever to complete the education and secure employment," said Hong Jun-ho, director of KISIA's Korea Information Security Education Institute. "We will spare no effort to support the students in taking one more step toward their goals through this program."
Applications for the 4th cohort's company track (Sk Shieldus) will be accepted until the 10th. Trainees will be selected by the 26th through document screening, an online personality test (SKST), and interviews. Selected trainees will join the 4th cohort starting with an orientation on the 31st. For more details, visit the KISIA Integrated Education Management System (https://kice.kisia.or.kr).
Cho Yeong-cheol, chairman of KISIA, said, "To fundamentally resolve the manpower supply-demand gap in the information security industry, it will be important to establish a virtuous cycle for talent development. We will strengthen the company-led Security Academy curriculum, build a system for fostering high-quality practical talent and linking with companies, and create a sustainable information security industry ecosystem."
The KISIA Korea Information Security Education Center plans to solidify its practice-based curriculum led by industry experts, enhance the quality of project outcomes through first and second round competition evaluations of practical projects, and actively support trainees in identifying their job strengths through individual portfolio assessments upon completion. At the end of the year, a Security Academy performance-sharing event will be held to provide networking opportunities across all cohorts and to spread best practices of the curriculum.
