2024.07.05. The Fair Economy — Shinhan University (President Kang Seong-jong)'s Software (SW)-Centered University Project Group recently announced that the '2024 Uijeongbu Digital-Science Experience Festival' was successfully held on June 1 at Shinhan University's Shinhan Convention Center.
The event, hosted and organized by the Uijeongbu Office of Education in Gyeonggi Province and sponsored by Shinhan University's SW-Centered University Project Group, drew about 360 elementary and middle school students from Uijeongbu along with roughly 180 parents.
According to the SW-Centered University Project Group, the Digital-Science Experience Festival aimed to realize "future education that converges educational imagination and challenge, Uijeongbu-style education befitting Uijeongbu," focusing on building students' capabilities to become active participants in the digital world through science education suited to the digital age.
The SW-Centered University Project Team participated in the event in three ways.
First, it cooperated to make it possible to hold the event at Shinhan Convention Center.

It also conducted a parent lecture program to expand digital literacy competencies among the MZ generation, divided into morning and afternoon sessions.
In the morning, Choi Yong-su, a professor in the Department of Future Automotive Engineering and deputy director of the SW-Centered University Project Group, gave a presentation titled "SW Coding and the Digital Literacy of the MZ Generation" from the perspective of regional SW retraining. In the afternoon, Professor Lim Chae-hwan of the Micro-Degree College spoke on "Preparing Our Children's Future in the AI Era!" from the perspective of an artificial intelligence (AI) convergence expert, addressing changes brought by the AI era, how to prepare for them, and the core competencies needed for students' career planning.
During the empathy talk session that day, Choi Han-yong, head of the SW-Centered University Project Team; Choi Yong-su, vice head; Park Seung-gyun, vice head; and Lim Chae-hwan, a participating professor, served as panelists with a sense of responsibility as a key university in northern Gyeonggi Province. They offered diverse opinions on questions submitted by parents in advance and on site.

Finally, undergraduate students from departments participating in the SW-Centered University program carried out volunteer activities teaching problem-solving-based SW coding to students attending the event.
Shinhan University was selected as an SW-Centered University last year. Accordingly, the project team plans to invest 1 billion won (about $725,000) annually over six years to strengthen SW competencies within the university and expand value into the local community.
