2024.07.12. The Fair Economy — PIOLINK (CEO Cho Yeong-cheol) announced on the 12th that it will supply its hyperconverged infrastructure solution 'POPCON HCI' for the 'Education Administrative Network Virtualization Server Performance Improvement Project' of the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education's Chungbuk Education Research & Information Institute.

Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) is an integrated system that combines virtualization, computing, networking, and storage on a single platform. Adopting HCI can reduce complexity and costs, while also improving scalability, flexibility, and agility in managing and deploying IT resources.

The institute pursued the integration of the education administrative network through cloud transition to improve the inefficiency of information resource utilization caused by operating individual servers. The project budget is 929 million won (about $670,000), and the project will expand the cloud infrastructure scale and improve performance. In particular, the hardware for the HCI configuration will be introduced to meet specifications such as separate construction of internal and external networks, redundant configuration, and 10Gbps bandwidth.

In addition, the project will introduce products that allow expansion of parts such as memory or primary storage without incurring additional license costs.

Through the project, the institute expects to achieve ▲maximizing information resource utilization through cloud computing technology ▲improving operational environment performance through efficient management of information resources by system.

The institute had been using Nutanix's HCI solution on four existing servers, but through the project, it will add seven new servers.

It also decided to introduce PIOLINK's POPCON HCI.

The project was carried out through a negotiated contract method. In the proposal evaluation, HCI solutions from Ablestor and PIOLINK were proposed. After summing the technical evaluation scores and price evaluation scores, the proposer of the POPCON HCI product received the highest score and won the project.

POPCON HCI, developed with PIOLINK's own technology, provides an all-in-one perpetual license, so there is no need for license upgrades or purchases based on features. This means investment costs can be significantly reduced.

In particular, it includes advanced features such as container environment support, load balancing as a service (LBaaS), disaster recovery (DR), high availability (HA), and backup/recovery functions, so POPCON HCI can be used when configuring backup clusters or DR centers. Virtual machines (VMs) running on VMware can be easily backed up and recovered on HCI.

All resources can be managed easily and conveniently through a single integrated management interface, and node expansion without service interruption is also possible.

Choi Jun-hyeok, head of PIOLINK's HCI business team, said, "PIOLINK is a leading domestic cloud infrastructure optimization company with 24 years of accumulated network and virtualization technology. By successfully carrying out this project for the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education, we will actively pursue the transition to a cloud-integrated system for education networks nationwide."

POPCON HCI has obtained GS certification and the National Intelligence Service's security function confirmation certificate. It has secured public, medical, and corporate customers and is strengthening its competitiveness in the domestic hyperconverged infrastructure market. Recently, through a win-back promotion against foreign virtualization solutions, it is expanding its presence by emphasizing perpetual licenses with the same features.

PIOLINK ensures close support in HCI design consulting, implementation, and operation, as well as rapid problem resolution around the clock. With various proprietary network and security solutions such as application delivery controllers, web firewalls, and security switches, it provides integrated, highly available, and security-specialized software-defined data center (SDDC) construction and services.

In addition, it is building a cloud platform ecosystem with domestic and international IT companies, including servers, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), backup and recovery solutions, and cloud integrated management solutions.

POPCON HCI is growing the domestic HCI market by securing public, medical, and corporate customers and participating in private cloud and VDI construction projects.
