2024.07.16. The Fair Economy — Park Chung-gwon, a member of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, issued a statement on the 16th strongly condemning the inhumane public execution of teenagers by the Kim Jeong-eun regime.
"Recently, the Kim Jeong-eun regime publicly executed about 30 middle school students for watching Korean dramas contained on USBs in anti-North Korean leaflets. It is beyond shock; one cannot help but feel anger," said Park, who is a North Korean defector.
"In June last year, more than 30 teenagers aged 17 and under were sentenced to life imprisonment or death for watching Korean dramas, and an entire family was even confined in a political prison camp because their child watched a Korean film. As the tyranny of the North Korean regime worsens, the situation for North Korean residents is deteriorating by the day," he said.
"The missiles made with the hunger and lives of residents are fireworks to protect the Kim dynasty, while the residents are merely hostages for maintaining the system," Park criticized.
He viewed such terror politics by the Kim Jeong-eun regime as evidence that unrest among North Korea's younger generation has already reached a point where it can no longer be controlled.
He also assessed that the 'Three Evil Laws of Kim Jeong-eun,' which the United Nations Human Rights Council called for abolishing in April this year, were intended to suppress with fear and violence the consciousness change among residents toward freedom resulting from Korean culture widely permeating North Korean society.
"The human rights situation of North Korean residents is a common issue of humanity that must not be ignored. This is especially true for the Republic of Korea, which is directly involved," Park said. "Will the Democratic Party of Korea turn a blind eye even to the anti-humanitarian crime of publicly executing children?" he pointed out, criticizing the party's passive stance on improving North Korean human rights.
He heightened his criticism, saying, "During the five years of the Moon Jae-in administration, we only gave North Korea time to advance its missile program and remained silent on the human rights of its residents. The Democratic Party should now act as the first party with 179 seats."
"Our government must further strengthen solidarity with the international community, including the United Nations, to squeeze the Kim Jeong-eun regime, and our citizens must not stop their interest and efforts for the consciousness change of North Korean residents. We must become a nation and people who are not ashamed before history and our own ethnic group," he added.
"The Moon Jae-in administration damaged the values of the constitution and human rights by forcibly repatriating defected fishermen to the North, but President Yoon Suk-yeol promised not to send back a single one of our compatriots who crossed the line between life and death to find the Republic of Korea," Park concluded his statement. "No matter how much the Kim Jeong-eun regime oppresses and squeezes North Korean residents, it will not be able to stop the consciousness change and will for freedom that have already begun among them, and the Republic of Korea will embrace them warmly."
