2024.07.22. The Fair Economy — The National Assembly Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the 19th at 10:00 a.m. regarding the "Petition Requesting Immediate Introduction of an Impeachment Motion Against President Yoon Suk-yeol," it announced on the 22nd.

The committee had convened a plenary session on July 9 to place the petition on the agenda and resolved to hold two hearings on July 19 and July 26. It also requested witnesses and reference persons to attend the hearings and submit relevant documents.

Of the 26 individuals (22 witnesses and 4 reference persons) summoned for this first hearing, nine witnesses did not appear, while 15 witnesses and four reference persons attended and gave testimony.

Committee members questioned witnesses and reference persons about the facts of the case to clarify the truth behind the "suspected external pressure in the investigation of Marine Choi's death in the line of duty," which is cited as one of the grounds for impeachment in the petition.

Meanwhile, following a motion by Committee Member Kim Seung-won, the committee added two items to the agenda: "Additional Request for Document Submission Related to the Hearing on the Petition Requesting Immediate Introduction of an Impeachment Motion Against President Yoon Suk-yeol" as Item 2, and "Request for Document Submission Related to Audit of Annual Accounts of Jurisdictional Agencies" as Item 3. The committee resolved on these items and adjourned at 11:31 p.m.
