2024.07.24. The Fair Economy — The Korea Internet & Security Agency (Kisa) announced on the 24th that it will provide consulting support for drafting and revising privacy policies, as well as group training by industry sector, for small and micro business operators who struggle to write privacy policies.

A privacy policy is a document that discloses important information about personal information processing, such as the legal basis for collecting personal information and the status of provision to third parties, to the data subjects. It is crucial for ensuring transparency.

However, according to the "2023 Personal Information Protection and Utilization Survey", the proportion of personal data processors who completed all items in the personal information handling policy was only about 29%.

In response, Kisa, together with the Personal Information Protection Commission, decided to support small and micro business operators in drafting and revising their privacy policies.

Any small, micro or startup business that processes personal information can apply through the Personal Information Portal website (www.privacy.go.kr). The agency will select 80 companies on a first-come, first-served basis by Oct. 31.

Companies selected for support will receive a privacy policy drafting guide based on one-on-one customized analysis, and Kisa plans to provide consulting or group training sessions for industry associations and organizations, including self-regulatory bodies.

"A privacy policy is a personal data processor's promise to handle data subjects' personal information transparently and safely," said Kim Ju-yeong, head of Kisa's Personal Information Protection and Utilization Bureau. "Kisa will continue to provide consulting support to help build trust among small and micro business operators."
