2024.08.07. The Fair Economy — Incheon Ganghwa Office of Education announced that it recently held a training session on English classes and assessments using generative artificial intelligence (AI) for middle school teachers in the Ganghwa area.

According to the Incheon Ganghwa Office of Education, recent edtech training sessions have often treated teachers as passive users, staying at the stage of simply introducing programs or providing motivation. This training, however, went further: alongside various courseware methods for student assessment and feedback, it had teachers directly generate learning materials themselves using generative AI.

Participating teachers learned that using API keys allows them to directly create high-level learning and assessment materials at a coding level, similar to program developers. They also learned flexible utilization methods that enable teachers struggling with guidance and character education to significantly reduce their workload and receive effective support through AI.

A teacher who participated in the training said, "I realized that AI, which I had felt was vague and difficult, has so many educational features that it would be a waste for only a few teachers to use it. If used proficiently, it will greatly ease the burden of student assessment and feedback."

The Incheon Ganghwa Office of Education said that with AI digital textbooks set to be fully introduced next year, it plans to continue providing steady training to build teachers' confidence in using AI in schools.
