2024.08.03. The Fair Economy — Japan Airlines (JAL) recently announced that it has launched a self bag drop service using automated baggage check-in machines at Gimpo Airport.

According to JAL, the service was piloted on JL92, a flight departing for Haneda at noon, starting August 1. It is scheduled to expand in September to include JL94, which departs in the evening, and later to all flights operating from Gimpo, including JL90, which departs in the morning.

The introduction of the Bag Drop service is the fourth among JAL's overseas stations.

The service is available to passengers who have completed ticket issuance through self check-in options such as the website or kiosks and are checking in baggage within the free baggage allowance. By using this service, passengers no longer need to visit check-in counters, enabling faster and more efficient boarding procedures.

JAL's efforts to improve customer convenience through the JAL SMART AIRPORT service, which shortens check-in and baggage drop wait times at Haneda Airport and other locations, have been highly recognized, and in April it was named a '5-Star Airline' by SKYTRAX for the seventh consecutive year.
