At the briefing, Choi Gi-yeong, general manager of Snowflake Korea, said the company is partnering with Nvidia to help customers build custom AI data applications based on Nvidia AI within Snowflake's data analytics solutions.

At the keynote of the Snowflake Data Cloud Summit 24, held in San Francisco, USA, from the 4th to the 6th (local time), Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang joined remotely via video to discuss the collaboration between the two companies.

Country Manager Choi Gi-yeong explained Snowflake's open data catalog service, 'Polaris Catalog'.

Polaris Catalog is a catalog system developed based on the Apache Iceberg specification, designed to improve data interoperability and flexibility across various systems.

Country Manager Choi Gi-yeong emphasized that through Polaris Catalog, users can utilize Iceberg tables with interoperability across various cloud service platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.

Snowflake announced major feature enhancements to its unified platform that improve flexibility, interoperability and efficiency for enterprise data. These enhancements allow Snowflake's platform to reduce query times and accelerate data loading times, among other benefits.

In particular, the company advanced its governance model, Snowflake Horizon, to increase interoperability with open data in the AI Data Cloud. Specifically, it added the Internal Marketplace feature to support the curation and publishing of data, models and applications within an organization.

Cho Seong-hyeon, managing director at Snowflake, introduced new Snowflake features announced at the Data Cloud Summit 2024.

First, the new features of Snowflake's Cortex AI stand out.

Cortex AI is a tool that lets users easily and efficiently create generative AI-based applications. With this update, companies can now build a chatbot within minutes and get answers that draw on their own data in a chat environment.

Snowflake unveiled two new chat features: Snowflake Cortex Analyst, which enables secure and easy building of generative AI-based applications, and Snowflake Cortex Search, which provides enterprise-grade hybrid search.

Additionally, it launched Snowflake Cortex Guard, an LLM-based input/output protection feature that filters harmful content across enterprise data and assets, enhancing AI safety for businesses.

In addition, Snowflake AI & ML Studio supports no-code AI development, and Snowflake ML provides integrated managed MLOps capabilities in the AI Data Cloud, helping with model and feature management.

With Universal Search, it is now possible to search across Snowflake storage, external Iceberg storage, and third-party data in the AI Data Cloud.

Country Manager Choi Gi-yeong said, "Snowflake's domestic customer base has now reached triple digits," adding, "Our goal is to support customers in the Korean market to lower total cost of ownership while integrating AI/ML."

He said, "I believe there is no AI strategy without a data strategy. The design and operation of AI and applications must be based on data. Also, application development must be fast and convenient, and must also ensure efficiency, convenience, and governance compliance. Snowflake's solutions are good tools to meet these requirements."

Meanwhile, Snowflake plans to hold an event in Korea in September to introduce its new technologies and features.
