2024.06.26. The Fair Economy — Korea Testing Laboratory (KTC, President Ahn Seong-il) announced on the 26th that it will hold the 'Integrated Forum on Governance for Cross-Ministerial Medical Device Commercialization Support'.

The event will be held on the 27th at the Diamond Hall on the 22nd floor of THE PLAZA in Jung-gu, Seoul. It is co-hosted by the Cross-Ministry Full-Cycle Medical Device R&D Project Team (led by Kim Beop-min) and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (led by Oh Yu-gyeong), with KTC and the Yonsei University Health System (led by Keum Gi-chang) serving as co-organizers.

KMDF was established by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to jointly carry out projects supporting the entire medical device development cycle — including technology development, commercialization, clinical trials and regulatory approval — with the goal of leading future markets.

Themed "The Present and Future of Medical Device Reliability Assessment Technology," the event will be conducted both online and offline, with a live broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the Cross-Ministry Full-Cycle Medical Device R&D Project Team.

The program opens with welcoming remarks from KMDF Director Kim Beop-min, followed by two main sessions: one on medical device reliability and reliability evaluation technology, and another on reliability and support tasks from the perspective of users and developers.

In the first session, Park Jeong-won, former deputy director general of the Korea Testing Laboratory, will present on "The Essential Concept of Reliability and Assessment Technology," while Yoon Seok-jun, dean of the Graduate School of Public Health at Korea University, will present on "Ways to Enhance and Expand the Reliability of Domestic Medical Devices."

Anthony Ciccarello, chair of TC121 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and SyC AAL of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), will also present on "The Relationship Between Medical Device Reliability, Standards, and Regulations."

In the second session, Kim Tae-won, head of KTC's Bio-Health Center, will present on "Development and Support of Medical Device Reliability Assessment Technology," while Han Tae-hwa, a professor at Yonsei University Health System, will present on "Building a Global-Level Specialized Reliability Testing Institution for Health IT and Supporting Companies Through Cross-Ministry Project Linkages."

The forum was launched to share the status of project implementation by each institution regarding the task of developing and supporting reliability assessment technology from the perspective of real users, as required in clinical settings.

KTC plans to use this forum as an opportunity to raise awareness of reliability evaluation technology among researchers, users, and evaluation institutions.

"We will continue to cooperate actively and spare no effort in supporting our companies so that they can lead the global market," said Ahn Seong-il, president of KTC. "I hope this event serves as an opportunity to share the latest trends in medical device reliability evaluation technology and to raise renewed awareness of the importance of reliability evaluation technology so that it can continue to advance."
