2024.07.17. The Fair Economy — Sk Shieldus said on the 17th that it is teaming up with GS Retail to enhance its unmanned convenience store system.

According to Sk Shieldus, the two companies agreed to collaborate on upgrading the unmanned convenience store system in response to a growing trend of hybrid stores that are staffed during the day and operated unmanned at night. To this end, representatives from both companies held a signing ceremony at GS Tower in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 15th, pledging to pursue active cooperation going forward.

The two companies plan to leverage the infrastructure of GS25, a leading domestic convenience store brand, and the security and unmanned operation capabilities of ADT Caps, SK Shieldus' physical security brand, to upgrade unmanned convenience stores. As the first step of the collaboration, they will develop and distribute a new entry authentication device that enhances the convenience of switching between staffed and unmanned modes and improves store operational efficiency.

The newly developed entry authentication device exclusively for GS25 provides customized services based on the store's operating mode, such as staffed or unmanned. When employees are working, it displays product promotional videos, and when the store switches to unmanned mode, it shows a screen informing customers of the entry authentication method. This has enabled the entry authentication device, which previously only served a security role, to also perform marketing functions.

In addition, various authentication methods have been introduced to the entry authentication device to enhance convenience for visiting customers. Customers can enter the store after completing one of the following authentication procedures: ▲credit card (general/check card/Samsung Pay) ▲QR code (Our Neighborhood GS/Kakao/Naver) ▲Ansim Call (phone authentication).

ADT Caps will also provide physical security services to strengthen the security of hybrid unmanned convenience stores equipped with the new entry authentication device. Through AI CCTV capable of detecting abnormal behavior and a 24-hour monitoring and dispatch system, it will respond quickly to any problems that arise in the store.

In addition, the two companies plan to jointly develop an unmanned system that combines big data on store visitors with advanced security technologies such as AI CCTV to provide differentiated experiences for store owners and customers.

Jang Ung-jun, vice president and head of SK Shieldus' physical security division, said, "Through this collaboration with GS Retail, ADT Caps has solidified its unmanned solution lineup, from fully unmanned to hybrid forms. We will continue to expand partnerships with industries of different sectors and promote unmanned businesses that enhance safety and convenience in various areas."
