2024.07.22. The Fair Economy — The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 22nd that it has confirmed all 10 domestic companies identified as having experienced outages have been fully restored, following an incident where a cloud-based security product update file from Crowd Strike caused conflicts with MS Windows OS, leading to abnormal system shutdowns.

Meanwhile, the Ministry and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) warned that cyber attacks are exploiting the recent outage, urging security managers at domestic companies to remain vigilant.

The attacks involve distributing malware under the guise of fixing the technical issues caused by Crowd Strike, or using phishing emails that impersonate recovery support to trick users into entering personal information.

The ministry emphasized that measures should be taken only by referring to the official recovery methods provided on the Crowd Strike and Protect Korea websites.

It also advised reporting to the KISA Internet Intrusion Response Center (02-405-4911~5, [email protected]) if a malware distribution site exploiting the issue is found or a phishing email is received, and reporting intrusion incidents through Protect Korea in case of cyber attack damage.
