2024.07.26. The Fair Economy — LAVARWAVE (CEO Kim Jun-yeop), a company specializing in digital crime response, announced on the 26th that an employee in charge of its webcam phishing response and victim protection solutions has been selected as a member of the government's Suicide Prevention Policy Committee.

The government's Suicide Prevention Policy Committee was established under Article 10-2 of the Suicide Prevention Act and deliberates and decides on important matters related to suicide prevention policy. The appointment ceremony for the third-term committee members took place at the 8th Suicide Prevention Committee meeting held on June 14, chaired by Prime Minister Han Deok-su. The third-term committee is made up of 24 members, including Prime Minister Han Deok-su as chair, 12 ex officio members and 11 appointed members, and the term of office for members is two years.

LAVARWAVE manager Lee Geon-hui, who was appointed to the Suicide Prevention Policy Committee, has taken part in numerous related activities and received several awards since starting the online suicide-inducing harmful information monitoring activity 'Jikyeojum-in' in 2015. He has also volunteered for more than 5,000 hours. In addition, he has taken the lead at LAVARWAVE in protecting victims of webcam phishing and responding to the crime.

Manager Lee Geon-hui said emphatically, "I have always felt a grave sense of mission to protect webcam phishing victims. It breaks my heart that so many victims suffer from cybercrimes, including webcam phishing. The fact that many victims, despite being crime victims, are not properly protected and resort to extreme thoughts and choices is something our society must deeply reflect on and repent. My personal goal is to help victims of crimes, including webcam phishing, return to a safe daily life. Through my activities as a member of the government's Suicide Prevention Policy Committee, I will not only contribute to suicide prevention but also present various ideas and raise my voice to protect crime victims."

LAVARWAVE plans to fully support Manager Lee Geon-hui's activities as a member of the government's Suicide Prevention Policy Committee. The company intends to share the current state of digital sex crimes, including webcam phishing, in real time and help devise measures for suicide prevention.

LAVARWAVE said, "All of our executives and employees have renewed their resolve once again in response to Manager Lee Geon-hui's courage and determination to make South Korea a safer place. We will focus on protecting victims of webcam phishing, and work even harder to make South Korea safe from all kinds of crime."

Meanwhile, LAVARWAVE has recently cooperated with the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency in the arrest of 'Kim-gun's gang,' the largest voice phishing and webcam phishing criminal organization on record, and has built a dedicated database server to protect webcam phishing victims, concentrating its company-wide capabilities on eradicating webcam phishing and protecting victims.
