2024.07.17. The Fair Economy — The Public Procurement Service announced on the 17th that it will mandate a review by eco-friendly field advisory committee members during design adequacy reviews for large-scale projects worth over 20 billion won, starting in July, to strengthen design reviews in areas such as energy conservation and greenhouse gas reduction for public architecture.

Design adequacy review is an activity that examines, at each design stage—planning, intermediate, and implementation—whether the intended use and scale are appropriate for the project's purpose, and whether the project budget is excessive or insufficient.

According to the Public Procurement Service, it is the only government agency that has operated this review system since 2013.

Eco-friendly field advisory committee members are selected from experts affiliated with eco-friendly certification bodies and related companies. They will review the adequacy of eco-friendly designs, including energy conservation and the efficiency of renewable energy application in target projects.

With the strengthened eco-friendly design review, it is expected that the environmental burden of public buildings will be minimized, including reduced energy consumption, resource conservation and recycling, preservation of the natural environment, and creation of a pleasant indoor environment.

Kang Seong-min, head of the Facilities Business Bureau at the Public Procurement Service, said, "We will continue to strengthen eco-friendly design reviews so that public buildings can effectively respond to environmental issues such as global warming."
